KS3 Music

The Key Stage 3 Schemes of Work focus on practical music making and aim to engage and inspire all students to achieve their musical potential.

Key Stage 3 students at St George’s RC School have one lesson of Music a week.  In Year 7 we focus on learning about the different elements of music including learning to read and write musical notation.  These skills are developed using practical music lessons including ukulele performance, Samba, band skills and exploring instruments of the orchestra.

In Year 8 the focus is on developing the skills learnt in Year 7 through the exploration of different music from around the world including African drumming, RAP and hiphop, the Blues, and song writing.

Students are levelled at the end of each half term. It is expected that all students will make two sub-levels of progress a year in order to reach their target grade. The department tracks progress closely using a mixture of written and practical activities to celebrate the improvements students are making.

Homework is set in every Key Stage 3 Music lesson and is designed to extend and consolidate learning in lessons. It is expected to be completed for the following lesson.
