Welcome Mass

Every year we welcome Year 7s to St George’s with a special mass. Students listened as Fr Tom spoke to them about the meaning of community and helped them to begin their school and faith journey at St George’s.

November Services

We celebrate 'All-Saints' Day'.  Pupils are encouraged and taught to show saintly acts of kindness in their lives and make it a part of their life style.  One of the ways we do this is via PowerPoint presentation and discussion during extended Tutor time on 'All-Saints' Day.

We also remember the dead on 'All-Souls' Day' and pray for them.

Phillip Lawrence Memorial

Every year on the 8th December Year 7 pupils gather with School Governors and invited guests in the Friendship Garden to remember and pray for the Soul of Philip Lawrence in a short Service conducted by Father Tom OMI from Quex Road.

During the Service we were reminded of the great sacrifice Mr Lawrence made, and how through that sacrifice he showed such great love for the children in his care. The school was encouraged to emulate that love by setting an example in our homes, school and communities so that the Spirit of Philip Lawrence lives on today.

Advent and Christmas Liturgy

Lighting the Advent Wreath (Advent Candles)

Advent comes from the Latin word 'adventus' meaning 'Coming.' Advent begins the church year starting four Sundays before Christmas. The season of Advent has been set aside as a time of preparation since the 6th century. Advent is also a time for preparing for Christ's second coming, even as we remember and celebrate his first coming at Christmas. This is why the colour of the season of Lent is used, purple or blue, the colours also of Lent, of forgiveness and repentance.

Every year students are given an Advent calendar with a kind act that they can do each day as well as a Bible scripture to reflect on.

Christmas Carol Service

This is a special evening every year where we are treated to a myriad of Christmas Carols sung by the choir and musicians led expertly by our Head of Music Miss Savage.

Lent and Easter Service

Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. Lent is marked by fasting, both from food and festivities.

Each year our students are asked to reflect on the theme of sacrifice and compassion in our Lenten services. The atrium is filled with Easter Eggs that they collect for children in hospital and for local food banks.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

During lent our pupils are given a special opportunity to receive God’s healing through sacrament of reconciliation. Pupils are given an opportunity to attend this sacrament during their RE lessons. Number of pupils choose voluntarily to speak to the priest. Fr. John who has been our priest chaplain for the last two years is totally inundated with pupils’ honesty and genuine desire for healing.

St Peter and Paul

St. George’s community celebrate St. Peter and Paul festival with a special Year group masses. Our local parish priest usually presides in these liturgies and remind our pupil importance of these two saints and expect our leaders in the school and school councils’ representatives will be given special blessing to show their commitment and dedication for the service of other and witnessing of gospel values.

End of Year Services

Pupils and staff end each academic year with reflective liturgy or mass. During this liturgy we recollect all wonderful blessings and gifts that God has shown throughout the year. We also examine ourselves how we could even do better for the coming year. Pupils thank all staff and especially those who are moving on from St. George’s community. Pupils also prepare special video focussing on highlights of the year.
