A Parent's Guide to E-Safety

Technology is a wonderful part of children's lives, helping them learn, connect and have fun. By staying involved and talking regularly about online safety, you can help your child enjoy the internet confidently and safely.

Top Tips for Parents

Talk Often

Ask your child about the apps, games and websites they use. Make sure they know they can come to you if something online worries them.

Protect Personal Information

Remind children never to share:

  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • School name
  • Passwords
  • Bank or payment details

Set Clear Boundaries

Agree together on:

  • Screen time limits
  • Appropriate apps and games
  • Device-free times, such as mealtimes and bedtime

Check Privacy Settings

Review privacy and security settings on devices, apps and social media accounts regularly.

Encourage Strong Passwords

Use unique passwords and never share them with friends.

Know the Warning Signs

Look out for:

  • Secrecy about online activity
  • Sudden mood changes after being online
  • Contact from people they do not know in real life

Teach: Stop, Block, Tell

If something online makes your child uncomfortable:

STOP interacting with it.
